* Very popular in reef applications, this bulb is also great on freshwater plant, community, goldfish and cichlid tanks

* The standard when people talk about "crisp white light".
* High intensity bulb simulating a bright, clear tropical day.
* Promotes the growth of zooxanthellae algae, essential for the growth and well being of all photosynthetic corals and invertebrates.
* Panasonic style Square Pin socket (GY10Q).
* Works in any standard 55W OR 65W fixture of the same pin configuration.
* Note: Some bulbs are stamped "55W", but they will work fine in 65W fixtures. It's the ballasts that drive the bulbs.

Other Info:

To avoid problems with CF bulbs & ballasts, we recommend:
1) Mount electronic ballasts as far away from heat sources as possible (this would include bulbs as a heat source).
2) Do not mount ballasts in any high humidity areas (i.e. above sump, etc).
3) Avoid unnecessarily removing Compact Fluorescent bulbs once they are in place. Glass bulbs are fragile, so take care when handling them.
4) Make sure they are pushed all the way into their sockets.
5) Mount behind glass or acrylic 3-6" above the water. Do NOT operate any bulb directly over exposed water!
6) Securely mount all end cap cords, as loose cords can be pulled on accidentally, resulting in bulb breakage.
7) Most photo periods are between 8-12 hours, depending on specimen needs.

Works fine, lasts like any other CFL

Gave this brand a try b.c. it was cheaper. The bulb has been going strong for months, it hasn't prematurely died or dimed excessively. The build quality and brightness are on par with others I've used (Coralife, Current).

I decided to replace all my CFs during HL's Memorial Day 2011 sale when all 22" TRU CFs were $10. I bought 1 10kK, 1 actinic, and 4 6500K. The 10kK burned out in less than a week (replaced it with the old Coralife - still working great but old), the actinic is still working (its now middle of Oct), and two of my freshwater 6500K burned out in 1-2 months (the other two are still working). This was my first time buying this brand, but apparently they are junk. Half of the bulbs I bought are burnt out in a few months. Maybe worth $10 but for regular price of $20 or more, opt for the Coralifes. If I paid full price for them, they would get a 1-star rating.
