* T5 fluorescent lamps are a 5/8” diameter fluorescent tube compared to the standard T12 lamps which are a 1.5" diameter tube. This slim profile makes T5 lamps much more efficient than other types of fluorescent lighting. Also because of their slim profile, it is much easier to create a highly effective parabolic reflector that directs more light down on the tank than reflectors for oddly shaped power compacts or bulky VHO lamps. T5 lamps also have a longer lamp life than most other types of fluorescent lamps.
