Q. I wanted to wire this ballast up to use it on a standard T-12 fluorescent style lamp. Can I do this?
A. We don't recommend the use of a ballast/lamp combination that was not designed for. It may cause premature failure for both ballast and lamps. This ballast was designed specifically for 28W compact fluorescent style lamps.
Q. Is there anything specific I can to do mount these ballasts in the most appropriate area?
A. Anytime you are dealing with electricity and water, there are a few things you should be careful of. Try and mount the ballasts away from any highly humid areas, such as a tank opening, or refugium or sump. Mount the ballasts away from any heat source, such as chiller exhaust or the lighting itself. Heat is bad for ANY electronic ballast, regardless of style of lamp it's made for.
Q. What advantages are there in running electronic ballasts over magnetic ballasts?
A. Electronic ballasts (like the one above) is generally more efficient, saving you about 20% in your electricity consumption. In this hobby, every penny counts, and that adds up over time!
