Additional wiring harnesses sold separately. * Exceptionally energy efficient electronic ballast with potted design for moisture resistant operation. * Has 1/4" holes on ballast case for easy mounting. * This is an in-series product; thus, if you choose to use the 4 lamp harness, all four lamps will be either "On" or "Off" at the same time. * Endcaps are high quality 3 piece moisture resistant units and are German made. * Ballasts are not dimmable. * VHO ballasts are not compatible on X-10 systems. Warning: To avoid damage to your system, make sure the lamps are seated firmly in the 3 piece endcaps and the connection between the lamp harness and ballast is pushed all the way together. Any connection that is not made firm can cause an ARC, potentially causing damage/failure to your system. If you are not sure how to properly install the lamp, please call us toll free at 866-969-7333 or 866-WOW-REEF. Damage caused by an arc is not covered under warranty. * Caution: This retrofit/ballast kit must be housed in an area free of moisture, behind glass or acrylic. Make sure the bulb(s) and socket(s) are sealed off from any moisture, humidity or evaporation of your aquarium. Failure to do so will void any and all warranty, and could be a potential hazard. *** FAQ: Q. Can I run T5 bulbs on the ARO Model 4LX ballast? A. Simple answer: Yes, the ARO VHO ballast will "fire" T5 lamps. However, T5 lamps are high performance lamps and requires strict operating conditions for lamp performance and reliability. Starting: Proper starting and operation is crucial for lamp life and performance. One important parameter is starting - the lamp is designed to be started using a program start - this is an accurate sophisticated controlled starting with proper filament heating with precise amount of time before ignition voltage is applied to the lamp. Operating Current: Lamp operating current must also be controlled to tight specifications for performance and reliability. We do not recommend the use of ARO VHO ballast to be used with the T5 lamps. Yes, it will fire the lamp as with many other ballasts but this does not mean that the lamps are operating to manufacturers specifications. Many ballast manufacturers claim that their ballast "works" with T5 when in fact a dedicated ballast specifically designed is a must, particularly for the T5 lamps! Q. Is the ARO Model 4LX more similar to an IceCap 660 or an Ice Cap 430? A. The 4LX is closer in operating performance to the Ice Cap 660. It has increased lamp life, greater efficiency combined with powerful VHO output. The 4LX is pre-wired, and includes the endcaps, so it's a plug-n-play unit. No wiring headaches or unexpected additional costs when you get the ARO 4LX. Q. My bulbs didn't come on this morning, what happened? A. Since these ballasts operate on a "serial" connection, all bulbs must be working for the unit to work. You can test your individual bulbs by connecting the solid RED wired endcap, and the solid BLUE wired endcap to each end. This will "complete the serial connection", and will light the bulb if it's good. Q. Can I use 3 or more 72" VHO bulbs on this ballast? A. No. 72" VHO bulbs are 160W each, and 3 would exceed the 440W maximum a single ballast could handle. Also, 3 72" bulbs exceeds the 16 foot maximum bulb length. You could run 2, but not 3 or more. Q. Can I use Normal Output (20W, 30W, 40W, etc...) "N.O." bulbs with the ARO VHO ballast? A. Yes. You can run any "NO" bulb you want on the ARO ballast. It will drive them at near VHO levels. This is great for those who want to run cheaper "Gro bulbs" from Wal-Mart, Lowes or Home Depot on a refugium, algae scrubber or tank. The ARO ballast is versatile, and you can run any combination of NO, HO and/or VHO bulbs. Hellolights highly recommends the use of a ground fault circut interrupter with all of the lighting equipment we offer. With the correct installation and proper precautions taken you can avoid electrical shock or electrocutions.
